This calculation assumes that the average individual dog excretes 0.75 lbs (340 grams) of waste per day and that there are 23 million fecal coliform bacteria in one gram of pet waste. It also assumes that only 25% of the poo (bacteria) reaches a waterway and only on a rain day (Indiana averages 129/year).

The teeth brushing calculation assumes you brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. Turning the water off while brushing saves 4 gallons per minute.

The shower calculation assumes 1 shower per day per person. For every minute you shorten your shower, you save 2.5 gallons.
