Cold Water Washing

Nearly 75% of the energy and emissions produced doing a single load of laundry come from warming the water. Studies have found that washing in cold water is just as effective as using warm water.

Recycle Clothing

Textile production produces 1.2 billion tonnes (1.32 billion tons) of CO2 equivalent per year (Nature, 2018).

Almost 60% of all clothing produced is disposed of within a year of production, equal to one garbage truck being sent to the landfill per second (Nature, 2018)

Bottled Water

Not only are plastic water bottles filling up our landfills (there are over 2 million tons of them in landfills), but it takes 1.5 million barrels of oil to manufacture water bottles every year.

LED Bulbs

LED lightbulbs are not only more durable, lasting up to 25 times longer, but they also use at least 75 percent less energy than other bulbs. Switching to the use of LEDs in the United States over the next 10 years could save the equivalent annual electrical output of 44 large power plants (about 348 TWh (terawatt hours)).

What does it all mean?

Small actions that can be taken to improve climate change are everywhere. Indoor actions such as switching to LED lightbulbs and lowering your thermostat in the winter are great ways to start. Washing your laundry is another small, yet powerful action. A change to your commuting and driving habits makes a huge difference in CO2 emissions. Even actions like choosing to use reusable water bottles or shopping at a secondhand store for clothing help make positive impacts on climate change.
