Take the Pledge

I want to take a pledge to do, or already do, indoor water conservation actions.

Indoor Conservation Actions

Please select each action you will or already do and be sure to fill out the additional information requested. This will allow us to acknowledge all the water savings from your efforts.

Assumptions
  • Teeth brushing calculation assumes you brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time.
  • Shower calculation assumes 1 shower per day per person. Low-flow shower head calculation assumes as savings of 20 gallons per day.
  • Low-flow faucet calculation assumes as savings of 15 gallons per day.
  • Low-flow toilet calculation assumes an average household size of 2.63 people flushing 5 flushes per person per day and installed a WaterSense label model toilet that uses 1.28 gallons per flush.
  • Leaky faucet calculation assumes a loss of 15 gallons per day.
  • Repair or replace a leaking toilet calculation assumes a loss of 30 gallons per day.
  • Installation of an Energy Star efficient washing machine and/or dishwasher assumes 20 gallons saved per load.

Outdoor Conservation Actions

Please select each action you will or already do and be sure to fill out the additional information requested. Even if you don’t water your lawn at all, please mark ‘I already do’ for the first 3 items below. This will allow us to acknowledge all the water savings from your efforts.

Assumptions
  • Watering only early morning or late evening calculation assumes watering 1 inch an average of 3 times a week or 42 waterings from June to September with a water savings of 20 gallons per quarter acre per watering.
  • Not watering on a hot or windy day calculation assumes not watering at all on an average of 13 days and realizing a water savings of 3,267 gallons per quarter acre of 1 inch watering.
  • Not watering in late summer calculation assumes late summer is 6 weeks long and a watering of 6,534 gallons per quarter acre of 1 inch each week.
  • Mulching calculation assumes a mulch layer of 2 to 3 inches and a water savings of .025 gallons per square foot 365 days of the year.
  • Car washing calculation assumes saving 44 gallons per wash with the hose and bucket method.
  • Using a broom instead of a hose to clean calculation assumes a hose output of 10 gallons per minute. Note calculations are made on the above assumptions and your actual water savings may vary.
